Someone once asked me why I thought that playsets for kids were important. This person seemed to believe that this was just another relic left over from the pre-technology days of my childhood and that in our technological day and age, when fully 3D virtual reality gaming is not far around the corner, why a child would want to do something as old school and primitive as go outside and play. I thought I would share with you what I told him.

I believe that playsets for kids are important precisely because of what a technological age we live in. When I was a child, my playset was my castle and my backyard was my kingdom. I would fight dragons and save my village from evil, all from the ramparts of my backyard play set.

All children want to play, they want to be entertained constantly and to escape into a fantasy world far from reality, where everything is magical and there is a mystery to solve and a monster to fight around every corner.

Children today suffer from an over stimulated imagination. All they have to do is play a video game or turn on the TV, and someone else will have done all the imagining for them. It is no wonder that when all the magic and mystery of life is taken out of their fantasy worlds and put into the television, that anything that they could dream up might seem lame in comparison.

By getting them away from the TV and out into the sunshine, playsets for kids help to reawaken the creative fantasy world that kids today have lost. Not only that, but they are an early form of exercise and can help to foster a lifelong love of outdoors activities and physical fitness in your kids.
